Dr. Victor H. Burdick, MD

Stephentown – Dr. Victor Harold Burdick, MD, 88, died Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA.  Born in Westerly, RI on August 7, 1927, he was the son of the late Paul and Nancy (Brooks) Burdick.  He was the fifth of seven children.  [private]He lived in various places in New York State, including Leonardsville and Adams Center (pastorates of his father); and attended Alfred University and Albany Medical College.  In February 1946, he was drafted into the US Army, was trained as a medic, and served a few months in occupied Japan, obtaining a discharge in April 1947.

He received his Medical Doctor Degree in June 1954, followed by two years further training at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, CA.

Victor next served as a medical missionary in Malawi, Africa, from February 1957 to May 1970, 13 years.  There he met and married Beth Severe and together they bore three children. Together, Victor and Beth continued to expand the medical and maternity work, drawing patients from a wide area around the Mission.

Victor returned to America in 1970 to South Pasadena, CA.  He continued his work as a doctor in an OB/GYN residency for three years and with Kaiser Permanente for 16 years; then in Colorado, and last in Arizona.

For several years, Victor and his wife Beth were a part of the NET (Natural Evangelism Training) team, traveling around the country to Seventh Day Baptist churches, with training seminars, encouraging people to be more effective witnesses for Jesus.

Victor retired from medical practice in 2007, but maintained his medical license until 2013 when they moved to Stephentown, NY to live with his daughter Joan and family.  Victor has been active in Seventh Day Baptist churches in California, Colorado and currently at the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Berlin, NY.  Victor has been an active member, serving as a deacon and prayer warrior.

He is the beloved husband of Beth Severe Burdick for 56 years; devoted father of Victor Harold (Darcy) Burdick, Jr. of Highlands Ranch, CO, Joan Marie Burdick (Jeff) Brokalis of Stephentown, NY and Mark Daniel (Deborah) Burdick of Phoenix, AZ.;  proud grandfather of Leslie (Matt) Tjajadi, Alisa and Rachel Burdick, Andrew and Blake Burdick, Stephen and Seth Brokalis; brother of Stan (Cathie) Burdick, Bob (Mary) Burdick, LeRoy (late Ruth) Burdick and Marion (Dick) Maxson.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life service will be held Saturday, November 14, at 3 pm at the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church, 41 North Main Street, Berlin, NY with Pastor Matthew Olsen officiating.  A reception will follow the service in the church hall. A private interment for the family only will occur in the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery.
