November 19, 2015 By eastwickpress

Orlando, FL – Edward F. LaPorte, 89 years old, passed away on November 14, 2015 in Orlando, FL. He was born on July 20, 1926 in Hoosick Falls, NY. [private]Ob-LaPorte-wHis parents, Edgar and Helen Ryan LaPorte and brother Bernie predeceased him.  Surviving family includes his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Capano LaPorte, daughters Mary Jayne (Scott) Farber of Orlando FL, Wendy (Robert) Petitt of North Bennington VT, grandchildren Julie (Richard) Weidman, Christopher Robert Petitt (fiancée Erin Maroney) and Curtis Edward Petitt, and step-grandchildren Jordan (Lauren) Farber, and Nicholas (Emily) Farber.
Ed was raised and educated in Hoosick Falls.  He served with the US Navy in the Pacific during WW II and was a member the Army National Guard in New York for 29 years. He was a Civil Service employee until his retirement. He was a proud life member of the Elks and VFW.
Like his father, Ed was a gifted cook and caterer. He donned the white apron with joy, skillfully serving 10 or 110.  His Manhattan clam chowder was a family favorite. Ed loved sports and in his youth caddied for golfers when the golf bag was larger than him. His zest for this sport never waned. The Hoosick Falls Country Club was his home course and he achieved two holes in one at the Navy base golf course in Florida.
Ed was a loving husband, dad and “Pa” extraordinaire.  His family, especially his grandchildren, were the greatest love of his life.  He’ll be remembered for his kindness, love of sweets, happy whistle and warm smile. He will be missed every day.
Cremation will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home in Orlando, FL.  A graveside service will be held at the Saratoga, NY military cemetery at a later date.  Donations in his memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Program. [/private]
