Next year (2016) Petersburgh will be celebrating the 225th anniversary of its formal establishment as a town. [private]It was on March 18, 1791 that the State Legislature passed an act declaring that as of April 4, 1791, the northern part of what was then Stephentown would become a distinct and separate town to be known as “Petersburgh”.
In observance of this we would like to form a committee to spearhead various town-wide events during the course of 2016. With that in mind an organizational meeting of the Petersburgh “Quasqui-bicentennial” Committee will held at 7:30 pm on December 7 at the Town Hall.
The Committee’s first task will be to identify those projects and activities that would be fitting for the celebration of our 225th Anniversary.
Anyone interested in serving on this committee or having ideas or suggestions is invited to attend this meeting. For more information please contact the Town Clerk, Deidra Michaels at 659-3777 or the Town Historian, Peter Schaaphok at 658-2963.[/private]
