Celebrate the kick-off to the holiday season in Cambridge this weekend. The Cambridge Valley Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Hubbard Hall, Cambridge United Presbyterian Church and others to create a special weekend.
[private]Friday evening features the arrival of Santa Claus in a horse drawn sleigh, with carolers proceeding to the tree lighting and festivities at the Cambridge Public Library. Join in the procession, beginning at 5:45 pm at the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church. The Girl Scouts will provide refreshments at the tree lighting site. The first 200 carolers will receive a LED candle to carry during the stroll.
During the evening, walk along Main Street, warming up at our fire pits while sipping warm beverages. Many businesses will be open extended hours, offering “CVCC Christmas Cash” which can be spent through the weekend at participating businesses.
To enter the Christmas in Cambridge Raffle, add your name to the raffle bag every time you shop in participating stores this holiday season. The winning name will be drawn on December 23.
Hubbard Hall is hosting a special performance featuring the Hubbard Hall Youth Chorale and the CCS Drama Club called “Showstoppers and Tree Toppers” – a festive evening filled with solos, duets, and exciting group numbers, at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings. Hubbard Hall’s Village Store will offer ornament making fun and special sales throughout the weekend.
The Cambridge United Presbyterian Church will host a one-man performance of Charles Dickens’ The Christmas Carol on Saturday, with two seatings of a formal Victorian Tea (tickets available through Hubbard Hall). A free drop-off service for children at Brieman from 10 to 2 pm gives parents a chance to do some Christmas shopping.
The Storycrafters will be presented at Hubbard Hall in cooperation with the Cambridge Public Library. Striving to honor world cultures by telling the old stories in respectful ways and often integrating musical instruments, songs, or dances indigenous to that region, Barry Marshall and Jeri Burns, PhD have been working together as The Storycrafters since 1991. Always a folk-festival favorite, they believe in and share the time-tested wisdom of traditional stories with today’s audiences. The Storycrafters will be presented at Hubbard Hall at 2 pm on Sunday, December 6. Get your free ticket to this event by calling the Cambridge Public Library at 518-677-2443.
There are many other events going on throughout the weekend, including an Art Studio tour and sale, Craft and Vendor Fair, special open houses at area churches and more.
Visit our website for a full schedule of events throughout the weekend, www.cambridgenychamber.com or pick up a printed schedule at area businesses.
