The Stardusters of Hoosick Falls present their Fourth Annual Christmas Concert at the Community Alliance Church, on Sunday, December 13 at 7 pm.[private]The Stardusters are an eighteen piece “big band” in the style of those famous bands of the era of the Miller, Dorsey, and Herman bands. They were formed in 1975 by Cortland Cottrell, whose son, Bill, continues the tradition as manager. They will be joined by well-known local vocalist Krissy Fauler, who will perform with the band on White Christmas, Let It Snow and O Holy Night. The band will perform swing arrangements of many well known Christmas selections. The Musical Director of the band is Bill Gaillard who has been with the group since it began. The band is requesting food donations be brought for the local food closet. Everyone is invited to this concert.
The Hoosick Falls Community Band will present its 33rd Annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 16, at 7:30 pm at the Presbyterian Church, the place where this tradition began back when Pastor Bob Sprunger was there and played clarinet with the band.
The Community Band is a 55-member concert band comprised of adults and school students that rehearses through the year. They are best known for the summer concerts on Wedneday evenings in Wood Park. The Band participates in two parades annually, and presents programs at Waubeeka Golf Course in Williamstown, MA. The band is under the baton of Gaillard, who has just celebrated his fiftieth anniversary as the conductor. They will perform the following selections: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Cantique de Noel, Chanukah Is Here, A Charlie Brown Christmas (this is its fiftieth year!), An Irving Berlin Christmas, A Marshmallow World, Greensleeves, The Polar Express, Over the River, The Christmas Song, and an audience participation Sing-a-long which will include God Bless America led by Judy Hoag.
Also in the tradition started 33 years ago, there will be a reception after the concert. All are encouraged to attend this wonderful community Christmas program.
