Grafton – Irving T. Mason, 84, of Grafton, peacefully returned to his heavenly home on Friday, December 4, 2015 after transferring to a larger room where he had a party with his family and friends; enjoying Hot Dog Charlie’s, fish fry, and chocolate milk, one of his favorite spreads.
[private]Irv was a proud and devoted family man, a loyal friend who was cherished by all who knew him. To know him was to love him. He was born November 17, 1931 to the late Irving G. Mason and Anna M. Goyer Mason. His favorite past time was being with his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved deep sea fishing with his son and friends. He also enjoyed visiting York Beach, watching westerns, bull riding, playing Yahtzee, poker, and taking everyone’s quarters. He also loved Mema’s home cooking.
He was a Korean War Veteran and a lifetime member of VFW 6340, both of which he was very proud. Irv was a lifelong resident and legend in the Town of Grafton where he gave many years of service, including 25 years as an operating engineer for Troy Sand and Gravel, from which he retired. He served 25 years as a volunteer for the Grafton Fire Company, 10 years as Assistant Road Superintendent, three years as Road Superintendent; two terms as Councilman, and as a log foreman for Rynard Gundrum, as well as being a member of the Petersburgh Rod and Gun Club. He will be remembered as an upstanding citizen and symbol of integrity and honesty.
Irv was a man with a warm presence and welcoming personality who was blessed with a large and loving family. He was married to his beloved wife Shirley Duval Mason and was deeply in love with her for 61 years. He raised two adored daughters, Kathleen A. Mason-Wagar and Deborah M. Mason, and a treasured son, Tracy R. Mason. Left behind to remember Irv are his wife Shirley; daughters Kathy and Debbie, son Tracy, son-in-law Dan Wagar, former daughter-in-law Joann Mason, his grandchildren Stacey, Angela, Adam, Brooke, Tiffany, Debbie, Tracy, and RJ and great-grandchildren Devin, Reese, Emily, Brianna, Mason, Alexis, Arianna, Mackenzie, Gunnar, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
