Walloomsac – John Orson Stevens, 84 years old, passed away peacefully at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT, on November 21, 2015, after a long illness.
[private]John lived in Walloomsac, NY, and was the son of Seymour and Beulah Stevens of North Hoosick. He grew up in North Hoosick and, when he was young, delivered papers and worked for the owners of the Delaney Hotel. Then he worked for many years with his father who ran the North Hoosick Lumber Company. He later worked for Mahar Excavating and Columbia Box.
John was a wonderful storyteller, and especially liked to reminisce about his adventures when he worked as a logger and lumberman. He also enjoyed planting and picking vegetables from his abundant garden each year so they could be canned, and also so his wife, Marge, could use them in her delicious meals.
John was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Church) Stevens, whom he lovingly cared for at home for many years when she could no longer walk; his brother, Seymour Jr., and his son, Larry Stevens. He leaves behind his son, Jerry, who took care of John during the years he was still at home; three grandchildren; his sister, Martha Shoff; brother, Gene Stevens; daughter-in-law, Dianne Stevens; and a dear friend of the family who was like a daughter to him, Debi Ellis Nailor.
A private graveside service was held for John on November 24 at the Rosewood Cemetery in White Creek, NY.[/private]
