The Hoosick Falls Central School District is hosting a public meeting for residents of Hoosick Falls to learn more about PFOA and the water contamination situation in the village.
[private]The meeting will be in the High School Auditorium on January 14, starting at 6 pm. The meeting is open to the public.
The meeting will include an open forum for discussion, and members of the community are encouraged to bring their questions and concerns.
Judith Enck, Regional Administrator, US Environmental Protection Agency will be the speaker at the meeting.
Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Facin explains, “Our students have expressed great concern and uncertainty about the water and are quite sensitive to this issue. We are the lead educational institution in this community and will avail ourselves to that end to better inform students, parents and community members about the science of this issue.”
Healthy Hoosick Water, Inc. (HHW) is presenting the PFOA in Drinking Water public meeting. The group is a not-for-profit corporation created for the purpose of obtaining the clean up and restoration of the Hoosick Falls water supply, and to seek remedies for the environmental and public health problems associated with the use and disposal of PFOA in the Hoosick area. HHW is chaired by Marcus Martinez, M.D.
This meeting is for the purpose of conveying information to the public and to encourage a productive dialogue.
Dr. Martinez said, “I am very happy that the EPA has taken a firm stance on the safety of our drinking water, and they will be instrumental in helping us obtain a safe water supply. It can only help to have our citizens well informed, and I’m sure this meeting will accomplish that task.”
Mr. Facin added, “The school district, although not on the municipal water supply, has a majority of our students residing in the village. With that in mind, it is imperative that our students are fully informed, and knowledgeable about this very serious community issue. We’re very grateful to Dr. Martinez and Healthy Hoosick Water, Inc. for setting up this meeting with the EPA.”[/private]
