Grafton Resident Named New Rensselaer County Undersheriff

January 7, 2016 By eastwickpress

By Doug La Rocque

Since his graduation from Berlin Central Schools in 1983, Grafton’s Ed Bly has been involved with law enforcement.  That path from an Army Milltary Police Officer through the ranks of the NYS Department of Corrections and into service with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department, has now culminated with Bly’s appointment by new Sheriff Pat Russo as his Undersheriff.

[private]The Undersheriff in effect serves as Chief Deputy of the Department, tasked with helping Sheriff Russo administer all the functions of the Department, and serves as Sheriff in his absence.  Bly comes well qualified for the office, having spent more than 25 years in the Department of Corrections, most recently as a Deputy Commissioner.  In September of 2013, Bly was appointed by then Sheriff Mahar to the post of Chief of the County’s Correction Facility.  Bly said, “I am honored by the appointment and the trust Sheriff Russo has placed in me.”

Sheriff Russo and Undersheriff Bly were sworn into office on December 30 in a ceremony at the Rensselaer County Jail.[/private]
