A fire in an old wooden lean-to portion of a barn on the Wysocki farm was quickly extinguished by firemen Monday evening. The fire was growing quickly and could have been much worse had it not been stopped when it was. [private]

An area around an outdoor furnace under the cover of the lean-to caught fire and began to spread. Jeff Wysocki tried putting the fire out with fire extinguishers and a garden hose but the fire grew so quickly he was unable to stop it. When the call went out to the fire departments, two Hoosick Fire Department members threw on their coats, not stopping to put on insulating cold weather gear on the frigid night, and got a truck to the fire as quickly as possible. “It was really going when we got here,” Leo Surdam said. “We put the water right to it and got it down. A couple more minutes and it would have been much larger. It was a good thing we got here as quick as we did.”[/private]
