Seeking A Pension

January 14, 2016 By eastwickpress

Tuesday: This morning I came on to Mr. Rufus Withees and took breakfast. I then paid said Rufus Withee forty two dollars, which is the interest up to last October on a note of three hundred dollars, and then I came home. On this evening I rode down to Judah Rowley’s to inquire where his Uncle Nathaniel Warren lives. Rowley told me he lives in Berlin. I want to make proof by Mr. Warren that my father was a revolutionary soldier for my Mother to draw a pension.

[private]Wednesday: I took my cutter and rode to Berlin. On the way I called to Asher Wheeler’s and took dinner. From there I went to Mr. Cartwright’s in Hammon village. There Mrs. Cartwright directed me up east to the end of the road what is called Hull Hollow. there I found Mr. Warren to Mr. Joseph Lee’s and I fetched him to Stephentown to Squ Nathan Howard and Howard took Warren’s witness. It was Mr. Warren was with my father one year in the service as enlisted soldiers and Mr. Warren’s testimony was that my father served the first six months as corporal and the last six months as orderly sergent. I then fetched Mr. Warren home with me and he stayed tonight.

Thursday: This morning after breakfast Mr. Warren walks to Lebanon where his connections lives and I do agree to him when he returns to my house I will carry him home again.

Friday: Today I called to Mr. James Adams to inquire if he was knowing to Father’s services in the revolution, but he did not know anything about it. We also called to Mr. Abraham Winston’s but he had no recollection of father’s being in the revolution war, and we called to Mr. Hosey Bennett and old Mr. Jesse Bennet of being in the revolution some certain times.

We then rode up to Squ Nathan Howard’s to make some inquiries concerning to get the pension for my Mother.

Sunday: On this evening I took my cutter and rode to Squ Peter Spencer’s to inquire if he was knowing to my Mother’s marriage, but he was not knowing to the marriage. I was told to make proof of the marriage to get the pension from government, but said Spencer had some recollection of being in the war with my Father.[/private]
