After he retired, he was named Chairman of the Board. He was also the organizer of the Peoples Gas and Oil Company and was associated with many other businesses.
Upon his death, he left many bequests to local organizations and individuals. His remaining money was set up as a trust fund to be given out to groups in the Hoosick Area. Several causes in the area are still benefitting from his trust.
On Monday, January 4, on behalf of Peggy Shepard, Trust Officer of the Weir Trust Fund at Key Private Bank, Norma Brenenstuhl presented funds to 13 community organizations. The total amount was $10,000 and was divided among this year’s recipients. They are: the Cheney Free Library, the Hoosick Township Historical Society, the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, Hoosick Falls Cemetery, The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, The HACA Food Pantry, the HF Community Band, Girls Scouts Neighborhood, Boy Scouts Troop 63, Wood Park Seniors, Wood Bridge Seniors, the Fourth Ward Playground, and The Health Center Ladies’ Auxiliary, which will use it for a much-needed blanket warmer.[/private]
