Berlin Boys Basketball Season  Comes To An End At The Hands  Of The Northville Falcons

February 25, 2016 By eastwickpress

By Doug La Rocque

Despite building a five point lead early in the game, the Berlin Mountaineers were not able to stop a strong transition and baseline game by Northville, and fell in the opening round of the Class D Section II Playoffs by a 73-57 score. [private]The Falcons used an 18-5 run in the second quarter to overcome the deficit.  The teams played even in the third stanza, but a seven point cushion in the final quarter led Northville to the victory.

Playing his last game in a Berlin uniform, Senior Captain Ryan Shumway did his best to extend the Mountaineers season. He had four baskets from three-point range, was perfect from the free throw line and scored 18 points in all.  Junior captain Ryan Willis led all Berlin scorers with 20, while Roark Slattery contributed another 13.

Despite the obvious disappointment with the loss, the Mountaineers still posted 12 wins this past season, and with a core of underclassmen, look forward to an even stronger year next season.[/private]
