Katherine Shiland

Hoosick Falls – Katherine Shiland 95, passed away on Friday February 19, at the Center for Nursing And Rehabilitation. She was the wife of the late Harry Shiland who died in 1980.

[private]Katherine was born in Mechanicville, New York on April 15, 1920, daughter of Patrick and Katherine (Whalen) Hyland. She attended schools in Stillwater, NY. She was employed at the former Hoosick Falls Health Center as a Nurses Aid. Katherine was a life member of the St Stainslaw Society, and the V.F.W. And a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church all in Hoosick Falls. She was always eager to help the elderly and volunteered at the Health Center.

Survivors include her son Michael Shiland of Harriman, TN, four grandchildren Kristy Burdick, Michael Shiland Jr., Jennifer Gardner and Jason Sprague also 11 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter Mary Kathleen Sprague, five sisters and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday February 23, at noon from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will be later in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Academy through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls who are handling the arrangements.[/private]
