Maple Syrup Walk

February 25, 2016 By eastwickpress

Please join the Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) on March 12 at 10 am for a visit to the beautiful wooded property of John and Peg Underwood in the Town of Hebron.

[private]John and Peg manage their 40-acre parcel for maple syrup production, firewood, timber and recreation. We will take a walk on the trails that wind through the well-managed forest of maple, oak, beech, pine and birch, and then warm up in the sugar house, where firewood harvested from the property provides the fuel for boiling sap for maple syrup. We may also see John’s saw mill in action where he cuts boards from timber harvested on the property and also does custom work for others.

This is a great opportunity to visit a well-managed forested parcel and see what can be accomplished with vision and planning on a small lot with limited effort. The Underwood’s take great satisfaction and enjoyment in their property. Join us and get inspired.

This free event is made possible with the support of the Robert H. Wentorf Foundation. Space is limited. Please RSVP online by March 10th at www.agstewardship.org, by emailing asa@agstewardship.org or by phone at (518) 692-7285.

ASA was founded 25 years ago as a non-profit land trust focusing on farmland conservation in Washington and Rensselaer counties. Today, ASA has conserved nearly 17,000 acres and 107 farms. For more information visit www.agstewardship.org[/private]
