The Petersburgh Public Library will have an open house on Saturday, February 6 from 10 until noon. Please join us and admire the new handicapped accessible ramp which has been completed. [private]Learn how to use all the electronic materials available through the Upper Hudson Library System (UHLS) with the support of 29 public libraries. Bring in your device if you would like help in getting started or see how it’s done on a device on loan to us from UHLS. Help us identify Petersburgh residents of bygone days. There will be photographs of people who are not yet identified and your help is needed to identify them for posterity. Perhaps you have the same picture at home with all the names written on them and can easily tell us who they are. Other local history resources will be available as well as our library website which has links to various information including a map of Meadowlawn cemetery in case you are trying to find a certain gravestone, local history documents and genealogies which have been donated to the library. There will be free books for anyone who comes. Adults can select a book from the vestibule and children and youth will choose from a selection of books in the library.
Children are invited to the open house as well since it is the national “Bring your child to the library day.” There will be Legos available to build a project to display at the library, older children and adults can make a no-sew scarf and of course there are many books to sign out. Children in kindergarten and older and adults are invited to get a library card of their own if they don’t already have one.
Activities at the library include a book discussion group which meets at 7 on the second Wednesday of the month. The next meeting will be February 10 when the book, “All the light we cannot see” by Anthony Doerr will be discussed. An informal knitting group meets Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 pm so if you are available any time during that time span you are welcome to come or if you need assistance with a project please join us. Preschool story hour meets Tuesday mornings at 11 am for a time of play, stories, crafts and snacks. All preschoolers and their caregivers are invited. Don’t worry if your child does not like to sit still. There is plenty of space to move around and have fun.[/private]
