Take a Hike On RPA’s Chestnut Hill Property

February 4, 2016 By eastwickpress

Rensselaer Plateau Alliance invites the community to explore its newest property, The Chestnut Hill Educational Site, on Saturday, February 6, from 10 am to noon. RPA Board members will lead a group hike or snowshoe tour (dependent on weather) of this unique property which was recently donated to RPA by Stephentown resident Ken James.

[private]For over 30 years Ken James worked tirelessly to breed a blight resistant strain of American Chestnut trees. The community is invited to explore the property, which has many chestnut trees, some mature and nut producing.  Ken’s very generous donation of this land to RPA will assure that it remains in forest and open to the public for recreation and educational uses.

For more information about the hike, which will begin near 194 Brainard Road, Averill Park (in Stephentown), please contact info@rensselaerplateau.org.[/private]
