Antiques And Art Discovery Day At Tech Valley High School

March 31, 2016 By eastwickpress

An antiques and art discovery day will be held to benefit the Tech Valley High School Parent Activities Council (PAC) on Saturday, April 16. The event is open to the public from 9 am to 6 pm. Antique, art and collectible experts from The Appraisers Road Show will hold the event at Tech Valley High School (TVHS), which is located at 246 Tricentennial Drive in Albany on the campus of the Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. No appointments are needed. [private]“We are excited to host The Appraisers Roadshow at Tech Valley High School,” said Miriam Dushane, president of the THVS PAC. “This event will allow the PAC to continue its mission of fostering relationships for our students and the school so that parents, teachers and administrators can work collaboratively to provide the highest quality education and experiences for the students.”
The event offers everyone the opportunity to have their heirlooms and collectibles verbally analyzed and given an auction estimate. Nine specialized experts will be available to talk with participants. Members of the public can bring their objects to TVHS, or, if there are a large group of items, The Appraisers Road Show team members may be contacted for on-site visits.
This is the 21st road show held in New York State in the past four years. This is the first event in Albany. A number of important antique finds were made in the past, which include a $1 million Chinese Imperial Zitan chair, a Gustav Stickley corner cupboard and a group of Japanese Surimono prints. Besides these treasures, a number of other surprises have been found at all price levels, often to the delight of the owners.
The event will feature leading experts in Americana documents and maps, jewelry, silver, furniture, stamps, coins, toys, military relics, books, sports memorabilia, Chinese and Japanese objects, ceramics, rugs, tapestries, prints, posters, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and other collectibles.
Additionally, a presentation on buying, selling and appraising fine art will be given by Walter Bazar, an expert in 19th and 20th century painting. Colin Fraser, the former head of Christie’s stamp department, will also offer a presentation and discussion on stamps. The talks will begin at 1 pm.
A $5 fee per item will be charged for each of the first five items. After the first five, there is no extra charge.
There is ample, free and quick access parking.
For more information about the appraisal day, please visit www.gotoroadshow.com, or call Walter Bazar at (518) 242-0858.[/private]
