Bennington, VT – Dorothy Grout Dusha, 83, succumbed to injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Sunday, March 20, 2016. Dorothy was born in East Arlington, VT on December 8, 1932 on her father Max (Ruth) Grout’s birthday. [private]
She married Donald Dusha from Cambridge and they had three children, Charles, Dianne (Bruce Mosher) and Laura (David Nelson). She graduated from AMHS and St. Joseph’s College. Dorothy worked various office-related jobs in the Bennington-Cambridge-Manchester area and was an avid volunteer. Her volunteer work was with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4H programs, F.H.A. and F.C.C.L.A. (all of which her children were involved in). Her adult volunteer work was at SWVMC, North Adams Hospital, Red Cross Blood Mobile and Relay for Life. Dorothy also sewed costumes for plays at AMHS and more recently Berlin (NY) HS. Dorothy was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served the organization in many capacities including chapter and grand officer. Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and was famous for her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and friends are encouraged to wear their red hat, or any hat, to the service. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Donald, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Saunders. In addition to her children and their spouses, Dorothy is survived by five grandchildren, Ross (Jennifer), Ryan, Craig (Alicia) Brendan and Jared (Stacy) and three great-grandchildren, Lane Mosher, Barrett Dusha and Isla Rose Mosher. She is also survived by a sister Joyce Bennett and a brother Alden (Maggie) Grout, several nieces, nephews and cousins. A committal service will be held on Friday, March 25 at 3 pm at Woodland Cemetery, Cambridge, NY. The family will receive visitors at the Federated Church in East Arlington, VT on Saturday, March 26 from 12 until 1:45 pm. Sisters and Brothers of the Eastern Star are invited to hold a brief service at 1:45 pm followed by A Celebration of Life at 2 pm with fellowship time to follow.
