March 31, 2016 By eastwickpress

Heidi Hill will give an illustrated talk, Sustenance and Style: Dining and Food Ways of the 17th Century Dutch in the Hudson Valley, on Monday, April 4, at 7:30 pm, at the Stephentown Historical Society’s Heritage Center, 5 Staples Road (corner of Garfield Road), Stephentown, New York.  [private]Learn about the foods and customs the Dutch brought to this New World and be surprised at which menu items we still enjoy.  Note that this program returns to a Monday evening schedule for the spring and summer months.  The program is free and the building is handicapped accessible.  For directions, telephone (518) 733-0010.
Hill is Historic Site Manager of Crailo and Schuyler Mansion State Historic Sites in Rensselaer and Albany, New York, respectively.  She has also worked at the Clermont and Olana State Historic Sites.  She earned her masters degree in history museum studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program and has a bachelors degree in history from Binghamton University.
Using Dutch genre paintings paired with archaeological evidence, Dutch documents and 17th century artifacts from New Netherland and Indian lands, Hill will illuminate the colorful and sometimes surprising daily life of both the colonists and Native Americans through the foods they ate and their table and cook ware.[/private]
