Sap Happy Hop: Swing Docs Big Band Concert And Dance

March 25, 2016 By eastwickpress

CiviCure presents the Sap Happy Hop, a swing band dance and concert on Saturday, March 26. Spring will be in the air and in your step as the Swing Docs big band presents classic swing, Latin and rock selections featuring the vocals of Ric DiDonato and Tracy Teschka. Funds raised will support CiviCure’s efforts to restore the historic Wood Block building at 5 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, where traveling and local artists once graced the stages in this 1878 village landmark.

The Swing Docs are Albany's popular big band. They perform traditional big band favorites from Miller to Basie, plus Latin, swing, standards, and contemporary hits with the rich full sound only a band this size can deliver. Add two dynamic vocalists (Hoosick Falls’ Ric DiDonato in this photo), and you've got the perfect combination for the Sap Happy Hop this Saturday night. Photo courtesy of The Swing Docs

Headlining this early spring evening with their motto of “Cure the blues or whatever’s ailing you,” The Swing Docs have appeared in some of the region’s best known performance venues including Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, WAMC’s “The Linda” Norris Auditorium in Albany, and Proctors Theatre in Schenectady. The group was founded in 1998 by a group of medical professionals from Albany Medical Center and has a full big band complement in the tradition of Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington.

The Spa City Swingers from Saratoga and Ballston Spa featuring dancers Aaron and Janae Romano, will jumpstart the evening’s program with a free swing dance lesson from 7 to 7:30 pm.

Magnificent Memorial Hall on the campus of the Hoosac School is the site for the event. Located at 14 Pine Valley Road in Hoosick, Hoosac School is an independent college preparatory school.

Tickets are $20 and include a maple syrup-accented tasting menu of savories and sweets prepared by Chef Kelly Jansen, soft drinks, and the 7 pm dance lesson with the Spa City Swingers. The Swing Docs begin at 7:30. Cash bar with Brown’s Brewery Maple Brown Ale and other hoppy offerings along with wine for over 21 with ID. Tickets are available at the door, Thorpe’s Pharmacy in Hoosick Falls, Brown’s Brewery in Walloomsac and Troy locations.

CiviCure is a Hoosick Falls non-profit organization driven by the mission of community revitalization through active stewardship of Hoosick’s rich heritage and rural environs, and the art inspired by them.
