The Town of Hoosick Lions Club was formed in October of 1960. Their first event was the Penny Hunt for kids.
[private]Lions Clubs International was charged by Helen Keller to be Knights in the crusade against blindness in a convention of 1929. Treatment of eye problems has been the primary focus of Lions Clubs since that time, providing eye exams and glasses for those in need as well as visual aids and most recently with hearing impaired. These are things for which the Lions raise money, through Christmas Trees, Chocolate rabbits, and other events.
The first event was for fun for kids. On the second Saturday before Easter pennies are tossed out and kids of all ages by gender go hunting for pennies. One penny in each category is painted a contrasting color to the band new shiny penny. The person in each category by gender and age wins a prize. This year the Penny Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 19, with a rain date of March 26. The Hunt is held in Wood Memorial Park at noon.
Parents, bring your kids to this fun event. For “older” kids there is an egg toss with uncooked eggs – fun for them too.[/private]
