Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Open Houses Draw a Crowd
by Deb Alter
The northern end of Church Street in Hoosick Falls was all abuzz with activity on Monday evening, April 18. Lots of community members and local officials, as well as Hoosick Local Development Corporation (HLDC) committee members were downtown to welcome Xentrix Hair Saloon, Little Sprouts, and Shaw’s Mobile Repair Services. Visitors to the shops were invited to look around, talk to the proprietors, and sample snacks and beverages. And, it was a social event.

Renee Parker, owner of Little Sprouts Baby Bump and Beyond, is thrilled with her new space (she moved to the current location from farther south on Church Street). “It’s bright, and there’s lots of space for strollers to move around,” she said. “Now I can stock more gear and larger items.” Parker’s business has grown so much since she opened last August that she already needed a bigger space. Her parents bought the former Third Base building where she is now, and they are her landlords.
Jennifer Disorda is back in town. She had closed up her salon on Classic Street a few years ago and moved to Troy. Since so many of her clients from Hoosick Falls were driving all the way down there so Disorda could style their hair, she figured that she should come back. She says many of her loyal Troy clients (as well as her clients from Bennington and Massachusetts) have said they will come up to Hoosick Falls for her haircuts, and that that will introduce more people to the Village. She also carries her own handmade jewelry and other decorative items. You can also get a tan at her Saloon.
Matthew Shaw’s business is mobile. He will come to your house and tune up the lawnmower, snowblower, or whatever needs fixing. Dianne Hosterman, one of the event’s visitors was so excited about Shaw’s services. “I can’t get my lawnmower in my car. It’s so great that now I know someone who can come and to fix it at my house.”
Tom Vallone of the HLDC was pleased at the turnout. “I want to thank everyone for coming out and being so supportive,” he said.[/private]
