HAYC3 Sponsoring Community Walk For Suicide Prevention

April 28, 2016 By eastwickpress

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens and young adults in the United States-and even the community of Hoosick is not immune to such tragedy.

[private]Hoosick’s annual Suicide Prevention Walk not only gives the community the opportunity to give a communal hug to families and friends who are heartbroken from the loss of a loved one by suicide, but it reminds community members that coming together to support one another can bring hope to those who are struggling.

This year’s walk will be on Sunday, May 1 at 6 pm starting from the north end entrance of the Hoosic River Greenway.  Walkers will take in the tranquility and beauty of the greenway with their Hoosick neighbors and be reminded we can always lean on one another even on the darkest days.  A mile into the walk, luminaries will be lit with words of encouragement to shine light on the darkness of suicide.  Walkers can continue on the trail or return to the starting point with the renewed knowledge that suicide prevention starts with everyday heroes like them!

For more information on the walk, call 518-686-9050 or visit the HAYC3 website:  www.hayc3.org.[/private]
