Patire Building About To See Action Again

April 14, 2016 By eastwickpress

New, Used And Antique Tractor Business Is Moving In

by Deb Alter

The Patire Chevrolet Building, located at 191 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, which has been sitting empty for almost four years, is showing signs of life. Although he hasn’t closed on the one-acre property yet, John Cipperley, of JC Tractor Repair and Restoration, currently located in Pittstown, has already started working on getting the building ready for business. He hopes to close by the end of this month.

JC Tractor Repair and Restoration specializes in large and small, new and used farm equipment, tractor implements and antique tractors. The company has been serving Albany, New York, and the surrounding Capital Region since 2004. Cipperley said he has been eyeing the 191 Main Street property for a while. “It’s like the building was built for us,” he said, “It has the paint booth and service bays and everything we need already set up.” His current location, 3512 State Route 7 in Pittstown, has become too small for all of the sales, service, and restoration work that he and his four guys do. “We’re bumping into each other,” he said. The new site will give them much more space – 9,894 square feet, to be exact. The biggest repair he has to do in order to make the building ready is repair the roof. He also needs to do some painting, get some windows fixed, and a lot of general clean-up.

Cipperley grew up on a poultry farm in Greenbush, and farming and tractors have been in his blood ever since. Sales and service/repair are the bulk of his business. Restoring of antique tractors, the part he enjoys the most, makes up about 25%. He said that he has always been aware of the importance of Walter A. Wood Reaping and Mowing Machines, whose home base was Hoosick Falls, in the history of agriculture in this country.

A significant part of JC Tractor’s business involves restoring old tractors like this one.

JC Tractor will use the Hoosick Falls site for the main office, sales, service, and restoration and rebuilding activities and will maintain the Pittstown location as a display area. He plans to spend most of his time in Hoosick Falls, but said,”I’ll be going over the mountain often.”[/private]
