April 7, 2016 By eastwickpress

Monthly Lego Club – Friday, April 8 at 6 pm.  Do you have a Lego enthusiast who could spend hours and hours every day engrossed with creative building? The Lego Club meets on a Friday night each month for an hour of building fun. There is no sign-up or charge.  This month we will try a game of Lego Bingo and a Lego speed building round.  Join the fun!

[private]Earth Day Talk – Creating a Just and Sustainable Food System On Tuesday, April 12 at 7 pm we will celebrate Earth Day by hearing from Hannah Slipakoff of Soul Fire Farm in Grafton.   The talk will highlight the work of Soul Fire Farm and other activist-farms that are working to dismantle racism and oppression in the food system.  Hannah Slipakoff began learning how to grow vegetables as a teenager in Philadelphia, PA where the food justice and urban agriculture movement catalyzed her political and social consciousness. She is grateful to have experienced learning and working on diverse urban and rural farms over the past ten years, and is extremely honored to be joining the Soul Fire team this season. Hannah works in awe of the innate human power to create, nurture, and sustain life. She balances her dedication to growing food with fierce commitment to practicing yoga, serving as a birth doula, creating art, and working with spirit in the kitchen. Light refreshments will be served.  Come and bring your friends!

Sunday Classics Film Series – Sunday, April 17 at 4 pm.  If you often yearn for the films of yesteryear and find little to enjoy in today’s movie theaters, then come join this relaxed group as we watch the classic films from the Golden Age of Hollywood. This film series meets on the third Sunday of each month and is appropriate for young adults and older. Your suggestions for upcoming films are always welcome. This month we will show April in Paris starring Doris Day, Ray Bolger, and Claude Dauphin. Free refreshments will be served.

Author Event – Kurt B. Dowdle – Thursday, April 21 at 7 pm. Join us as we welcome author Kurt B. Dowdle, who will discuss his novel, Ax & Spade.  This historical thriller takes us back to an unforgettable nineteenth century boom town and introduces readers to a brilliant but flawed detective named Kamp.  Kurt grew up a mile from the house where the crimes, upon which the novel Ax & Spade is based, took place in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1880. Kurt currently lives in New Lebanon with his family.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. Light refreshments will be served.
