The Honorable Richard P. Whalen Memorial Scholarship

The Honorable Richard P. Whalen Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 to honor and preserve the legacy and life work of Judge Richard P. Whalen – Vietnam Veteran, beloved family member, friend, community member, and volunteer.

[private]Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on the following criteria: 1) Exemplifies patriotism and the attitudes and character of Judge Whalen; 2) Evidence of a deep level of commitment to the community through volunteerism; 3) Resident of the Hoosick Falls Central School District for at least one year prior to deadline date (note: applicants are not required to attend HFCS, just reside in the District); 4) High School Senior or expecting a High School Equivalency Diploma.

A completed application along with essay and recommendations from a school official and community leader will be required. At a minimum, recommendations should verify sufficient knowledge of and association with the applicant over time, and provide evidence of their service to the community.

Applications have been distributed to Hoosick Falls Central, Hoosac School, Grace Christian Schools, and the LEAH Home School Co-op; however, we recognize there may be students in the district who attend other schools, so we are making this public through press releases and on social media.  You can find more information on The Honorable Richard P. Deadline to submit applications is April 30. Winner(s) will be notified by June 1 and scholarships will be awarded during the Elks Flag Day Program on June 14 at the American Legion Post #40, Main Street, Hoosick Falls.

This scholarship is being sponsored by Joyce and Kevin Whalen, widow and son of Judge Whalen, and Voice of a Vet.
