As you drive into the Town of Grafton’s Recycling Center and look off to the right, you’ll see a pair of tires on the roof over Supervisor Ingrid Gundrum’s office. The tires are there to help hold down a section of the town hall roof that is coming up and in need of repair.

Gundrum said now that spring is near, it’s time the Town considered fixing the roof before the problem grows. To that end, the Supervisor said she will ask the Town Board at their next meeting, Monday April 11, to consider advertising for bids, with hope the work could be completed in the near future. The Town replaced the roof on the Highway Garage last summer.
Tongue planted firmly in cheek, Supervisor Gundrum says Building Inspector Tom Withcuskey has figured out the problem. When you look to the southwest from the municipal complex, you can see all the way to the Helderberg Mountains. So when the wind blows from the Helderbergs, the first thing it hits is the Town’s roofs.
Gundrum is pleased with the informal reports on the audit of the Town’s purchasing practices.
The Supervisor said the auditor from the New York State Comptroller’s Office is nearing completion of his review of the Town’s voucher system, and the changes that have been made since their last audit in 2013. Back then, the comptroller’s office made several suggestions to Grafton on how they could improve their system. Former Councilwoman Barb Messenger authored the Town’s response that included an outline as to how vouchers would be handled.
Gundrum said the auditor has indicated he is pleased with the changes but would like a more concise written policy for auditing and paying the Town’s bills. Overall, she said he has found no major problems. Gundrum said the audit should be completed within the week, with the Comptroller’s written report to follow in a few weeks.[/private]
