Troy’s Hilton Garden Inn hosted the yearly gathering of members of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary this past Saturday, as they installed the 2016-17 slate of officers and handed out their yearly awards.  Jim Goyer took the oath of office as Chief once again, starting his 38th year in that role. [private]

Goyer is the longest tenured chief in Rensselaer County.  Installed as First Assistant Chief was Richard Goyer, along with Jay Goyer as 2nd Assistant.  Awards were handed out for a number of accomplishments including most calls, most attendance at drills and for longevity with the Department.  Tops in this field was Harold Goyer, the Chief’s father.  Mr. Goyer has dedicated 68 years of his life to the department.

The oaths were administered by Rensselaer County Battalion 5 Chief Cyril Grant.   Preceding the installation, the Department was honored for its years of service to Grafton by Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino.  Representatives from the Petersburgh, Berlin, Eagle Mills, Center Brunswick and Poestenkill fire departments were also in attendance, as well as the Grafton Rescue Squad.
The evening opened with Chief Goyer welcoming all to the banquet and thanking each member of the department and auxiliary “for their time and effort throughout the years.”  The gathering also took time to remember those that have gone before us.  Invocation and Benediction were offered by Bob Miner of the Grafton Baptist Church.   Dinner was preceded by cocktails, and ended with a Chinese auction and 50-50 raffle.  All items for the auction were donated by area businesses.[/private]
