HFCS Approves Budget

May 19, 2016 By eastwickpress

Hoosick Falls Central School District residents approved the proposed 2016-17 school budget by 77% of votes on May 17. The final vote tally was 340 yes votes and 101 no.[private]
The community was also asked to vote on a separate proposition to purchase buses using the School Bus Capital Reserve. This proposition, which will have no impact on taxes, was approved by a vote of 344 yes and 98 no.
Superintendent Kenneth Facin said he was “pleased by the outcome” given the stress the community has been under. Facin said, “Thank you to those who came out to vote. We are grateful and thankful to the community. It has been a stressful time with the water issues, and this positive vote for the school shows how much our community cares about education and our children’s well-being.”
Board President Greg Laurin said, “Thank you to the community for their continued and unwavering support of our school system.” Laurin remarked that the turnout was average to low, but the ratio of yes votes to no votes was one of the highest he’s seen. School Business manager Pam Hatfield said it was the lowest number of no votes she’s seen in this District.
Three seats were up for election for the Hoosick Falls Board of Education and all three candidates ran unopposed. The candidate votes are: Joseph Patire 372, Rachel Boisvert 309, and Andrew Beaty 304.[/private]
