First submitted to the Berlin Planning Board at their April Meeting, Primax Properties out of Charlotte, NC was back for a public hearing on their proposal to subdivide property currently owned by Larry King and Cheryl Maxon and construct a Dollar General store on the north side of the Eagle Energy property on Route 22. [private]King and Maxon, owners of the business, have proposed to sell two acres to the development company, while keeping an acre for their venture. The applicants filed a short form Environmental Impact Study at the previous meeting, which was accepted by the Board, and a public hearing was scheduled for Thursday, May 26. At that time, only comments in favor of the proposal were voiced, and the Board voted 5-0 to approve the subdivision.
Dollar General has told The Eastwick Press that stores of the scope they plan to open in Berlin generally hire between 8 to 12 people. They have the store slated to open in March of 2017. A spokesman for Primax said they hope to begin construction sometime this year.
Brian Barto and Jack Cline also appeared before the Board to continue their proposal for a subdivision of property along 14 East Shore Drive. Their original submission was postponed for boundry line clarifications. The Board accepted their application and short form Environment Impact Study. A Public hearing was scheduled for June 23 at 7 pm. Hearing no other business, the Planning Board then adjourned to join the Town Board to hear the proposal from SAFE for the joint venture expansion of the Aquafarm facility currently under construction along Route 22.[/private]
