Eleanor C. Mooney

Stephentown – Eleanor Mooney (nee Dypko) age 91, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2016 at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Antonina and John Dypko and was the youngest and last survivor of 10 children.  [private]Ob-Mooney
Eleanor was born and raised in Wallington, New Jersey where she married the love of her life, Franklyn C. Mooney, Jr. They resided in Philadelphia where Franklyn was stationed during WWII. They then ran a farm in West Lebanon, NY and eventually settled in Stephentown.  Franklyn and Eleanor recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
In addition to being a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eleanor was an accomplished seamstress who designed and sewed both of her daughters’ wedding gowns. She was a fabulous cook and was famous for her phenomenal potato salad, butterhorns, and pumpkin pie.  She was the owner of The Schoolhouse Road Yarn Shop and traveled to many craft fairs with her sweaters, scarves and hats. Eleanor and Franklyn enjoyed traveling with the Stephentown Seniors on their many trips.
In addition to her loving husband, Eleanor is survived by their children; Franklyn III (Regina) Mooney, Marjorie (Robert) Dorkin, Timothy (Mary) Mooney, and Eleanor (Ian) Mooney Lanier, grandchildren Gina (Liss) Mooney, Arielle Dorkin, Ian and Jorie Lanier,great-grandchildren; Jordyn and Mary Bucci-Mooney. Eleanor was predeceased by an infant son Dennis Mooney.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caretakers and staff of St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and in particular, to Severina whose daily commitment to compassionate care guided their family through this difficult time, as well as Community Hospice for their constant support.
Friends and relatives visited with Eleanor’s family on Wednesday, June 29 from 3 until 6 pm, and the service was held at 5 pm at Hall and Higgins Funeral Home in Stephentown. Interment was on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. The Dorkin family will observe Shiva at their home at 24 Woodridge Street, Albany, NY 12203 on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Eleanor in a special way may make a donation to The Community Hospice, Gift Processing Center, 310 South Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4 Pine West Plaza #405, Albany, NY 12205.
