June 2, 2016 By eastwickpress

Chris Coon will talk about the history of steam automobiles at the Stephentown Historical Society on Monday, June 6.  He will also display his 1912 Stanley Steamer, weather permitting.  The gathering begins at 7:30 pm, at the Stephentown Heritage Center, 4 Staples Road (at the corner of Garfield Road), in  Stephentown, New York.

The program is free and open to the public, and the building is handicapped accessible.  For directions, please telephone 518-733-0010.

Steam engines powered vehicles made by several manufacturers in the nineteenth and early twentieth century.  They became obsolete when internal combustion engines outpaced them in horsepower and lower cost of production.

Coon, who is from Sharon, Connecticut, is a collector and restorer of vintage and antique cars.  He transitioned from general car repair work to antique autos more than twenty years ago when his father-in-law infected him with the antique car bug.  He is a member of several national antique auto clubs and on the Board of Trustees of the Stanley Museum of Kingfield, Maine.[/private]
