Consul holds a BM in Viola Performance and MM in Contemporary Improvisation on mandolin and violin from Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music.  He was formerly the principal violist of Boston’s highly-acclaimed (but, sadly, now defunct) chamber orchestra Discovery Ensemble.  Now based in Brooklyn, NY, Matt regularly performs chamber music around New York City.  Also an enthusiastic educator, Matt teaches private lessons at Saint David’s School on the Upper East Side and maintains a private studio where he teaches violin, viola, guitar, and improvisation.  Matt combines his passions for performing and education as a children’s performer, having given numerous educational chamber music performances and workshops for young people from Pennsylvania to Maine. He plays mandolin, violin, and sings with the alternative folk group the Laura Grill Band and has performed with such diverse artists as The Dear Hunter and mandolinists Mike Marshall and David Grisman.
For further information, please call the library at (518) 794-8844. The library is located at 550 State Route 20, 1/4 mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22.[/private]
