Petersburgh Town Supervisor Peter Schaaphok submitted his resignation letter to the Town Clerk on Friday May 27, effective June 1.
[private]The letter said it is with sadness and regret that he tendered his resignation. He said when he agreed to take on the job, he was anticipating “navigating in pretty calm seas,” but when the PFOA crisis arrived, the job has become “physically and emotionally draining.” He feels that the high stress is having a negative impact on his health.
Schaaphok concludes the letter with an apology: “I sincerely apologize to the Town Board for leaving them with an unresolved mess and to the citizens of Petersburgh for not filling out my term of office.”
Schaaphok has served 5 months of his term, which began at the beginning of this year. The Town Board has scheduled a Special Meeting for June 10 at 7 pm to discuss appointing an interim Supervisor.[/private]
