Petersburgh Update: 41 Private Homes Getting Filtration Systems

June 9, 2016 By eastwickpress

by Alex Brooks

The latest results of well testing in Petersburgh have found one more sample between 71 and 1000 parts per trillion, 2 samples between 21 and 70 ppt, 8 below 20, and 6 non-detects.

[private]To date the County has taken 276 samples and has received results from 216 samples. 15 of those samples from private wells showed levels above 1000 ppt; 41 were between 71 and 1000 ppt, 25 were between 21 and 70 ppt; 46 were below 20 ppt; and 89 were non-detect.

It should be noted that these 216 samples were taken in 184 homes, because in homes that already had a treatment system in place, samples were taken before and after treatment to assess the efficacy of the treatment system.

The County’s release also said that they re-tested 4 wells where PFOS had been found in the first test, and all four came back with non-detectable levels of PFOS.

So far 41 homes have qualified to have carbon filter systems installed at Taconic’s expense. Six have been given final approval for all uses, and 35 are being installed or are awaiting final approval.

Those who have questions about the County’s testing program or its results can call the County Health Department at 270-2655.[/private]
