Ruth (Pollie) Nowik

Hoosick Falls-Ruth (Pollie) Nowik entered into eternal rest on June 2, 2016.  She died peacefully at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.  Born in Hoosick Falls on January 19, 1927, she was the youngest daughter of the late James and Sara (McGowan) McGarvin.  She was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

[private]She was the wife of the late Benedict A. Nowik, her high school sweetheart.  They were married on October 8, 1949. She is survived by her children, Susan Walters of Old Bridge, NJ and Jim Nowik of Rhinebeck, NY. She was the beloved grandmother to five grandchildren, Sean (Monica) Walters of Freehold, NJ, Jason (Dominique) Walters of Monroe, NJ, Jared (Tricia) Walters of NYC, Kailen Nowik of Cincinnati, OH and Dylan Nowik of Brooklyn, NY.  Also great grandchildren, Aidan, Chloe, Arianna, Justin and Lilia Walters.

She was a lifelong resident of Hoosick Falls, NY and attended Hoosick Falls Schools. She was employed in local industry throughout her life.  She was a member of the Hoosick Falls Health Center Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Academy Auxiliary and a lifelong member of the BPO Elks Auxiliary of Hoosick Falls. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and a past member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday June 6, at noon at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Hoosick Falls. The family met with friends and relatives in the back of the church prior to the service.

Contributions in her honor can be made to the Hoosick Falls Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation through the funeral home.
