Voice Of A Vet’s Adopt a Serviceman Program

June 9, 2016 By eastwickpress

Keeping Our Fallen Heroes’ Memories Alive

submitted by Gail Smith

Voice of a Vet is excited to launch its new “Adopt a Serviceman” program. This unique program gives individuals, family and community members, organizations, clubs, churches and other groups an opportunity to purchase a beautifully detailed cross memorial that will bear the name of a fallen Town of Hoosick serviceman, when and where he died, and the war in which he served.

Patriot Guard Riders display Liberty, the Town of Hoosick Tribute Flag, and Voice of a Vet's POW/MIA Flag at Voice of a Vet's "Adopt a Serviceman" program on May 21, held to honor Town of Hoosick men who gave it all. Each of these flags bears special meaning. Liberty has flown in ceremonies over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington as well as the grave sites of 95 of 99 of our men who died in service both stateside and overseas. Our POW/MIA Flag is embroidered with the names of 3 Town of Hoosick men who were declared Missing in Action: Gerald H. Bentley, Stanley E. Urbon and Harold E. Wilson. Photo courtesy of Gail Smith

A final resting place is being sought in the Town of Hoosick where all 99 crosses will be displayed to memorialize these men. Maple Grove, St. Mary’s, Hoosick Rural and Island Hill Cemeteries have given permission to place their crosses on their grave sites until a final resting place is found.

The cost per cross is $200, a small price to pay compared to the sacrifice these men made for us.

There are several ways you can help us fulfill our goal to adopt all 99 men:

1) Full Adoption – Choose a serviceman, send a check for $200. We will order his cross and you can display it on his grave site or wherever you’d like until a final resting place is determined.

2) Partial Adoption – Send a donation in any amount to help purchase a cross in the name of someone who may not have any family members. You can choose who you’d like the money to go towards or not.

3) Reserve a Name – Some of our men are not buried locally, so if you don’t have a place to display his cross, you can reserve one in honor of a particular serviceman by filling out a form and sending a deposit of $50. When we determine a final resting place, we’ll let you know and work towards completing your order.

All of the particulars, including an order form, can be found on Voice of a Vet and Town of Hoosick Tribute Flag Program facebook pages or by calling Gail Smith (686-9888), Joyce Brewer (258-5772) or Tom McMartin (686-5075).

To be a part of this unique opportunity to keep our fallen heroes’ memories alive, just  fill out and return the order form and we will contact you. Thank you![/private]
