Hoosick Rocks The Block With A Feast And Music

July 28, 2016 By eastwickpress

Bring A Dish And Join The Party

It’s summertime, and that means it’s time to let loose a little. And Hoosick is a community with tremendous strength and spirit, and Hoosick residents have organized a[private] “Rock the Block” party to celebrate. On Wednesday, August 3, Main Street in Hoosick Falls, near the Wood Memorial Park, will be closed to traffic, where there will be activities and community sharing. With a free chicken BBQ and hot dogs, potluck dishes (what are you bringing?), balloons, garden flowers, and music by the Community Band and special guest singers, Main Street and Wood Park will be transformed into an enchanting, fun, and food-filled summertime evening for sharing with family, friends, and neighbors. The event kicks off with chalk drawing on Eberle Way (chalk will be provided) beginning at 4 pm for kids and adults. Serious artists are encouraged to join in. Main Street will close promptly at 5 pm for set-up (feel free to come down and help), and people can help themselves to the feast set out on tables decorated with flowers and balloons that will be lined up right down the middle of Main Street starting at 6:30. The Wednesday night concert by the Community Band starts at 7:30 in the bandstand in the park. Along with the chicken BBQ (while supplies last) there will be coleslaw and delicious potluck dishes brought by fellow Hoosickians. Please bring a favorite dish to share – in a disposable container, if possible – and the recipe, if you want to divulge your culinary secrets. Bring your own blankets or chairs and enjoy the picnic in the park. Another special feature of the event is the Hoosick-themed, uniquely-decorated “Hoosick Cakes”, which will be on display and ready for dessert. If you are interested in decorating one of these special cakes, please call 518-686-9050 to reserve a pre-baked sheet cake (first come, first served) which you can pick up at the HAYC3 Armory on Monday, August 1, and bring decorated to the event. If you want to add your dish to the menu in advance, you can post it on the “Hoosick Rocks” Facebook page. The idea is to have a diverse, delectable, and plentiful potluck for all. This is a rain-or-shine event; it all moves to the Skating Rink if the skies open up. Everybody is welcome for an evening of summertime fun and sharing with neighbors and friends. For more information, to volunteer, or if you wish to donate some flowers for the table, email ihearthoosick@gmail.com. For event updates, visit Hoosick Rocks on Facebook.[/private]
