The Schaghticoke Fair opens its door once again on August 31 with $5 general admission for the day. Known as a small town fair with a huge reputation it is also the third oldest fair in the state. The theme of this year’s fair is “Made in the USA.”

One of the newest components of the fair this year is the Veteran’s Hall. Volunteers are planning an engraved brick walkway to honor veterans.

A veteran or family member may order an engraved brick to honor their veteran. The fair hangs its hat on agriculture and country culture, as well as the bevy of rides on the midway, foods of many different kinds and a new line up of entertainment.

Numerous informational booths sponsored by Rensselaer County are part of the fair. These include demonstrations by the Bureau of Public Safety and lots of advice on staying healthy from the Department of Health.

Some of the musical line up this year includes a tribute to Country stars Tim McGraw and Shania Twain, as well as Buddy Jewell, Mike and the Monsters, Hair of the Dog, The Oldies Show as well as Hypnotist Michael Blaine. Saturday afternoon will feature the North Country Music Awards Show.

Other returning events include the Pig Races, Tractor Pulls, Horse Shows, Wildlife Demonstrations, Classic Farm equipment and a Demolition Derby. The full schedule for each day, as well as admission prices and ride ticket information is available at the Fair’s website www.schaghticokefair.com.

The fair runs throught Labor Day, September 5.
