August 25, 2016 By eastwickpress

State Police in Brunswick were notified of a lost hiker on the Taconic Trail in Petersburgh on Sunday evening, August 21 by the hiker’s girlfriend.[private] The woman stopped at the Brunswick barracks to report that her friend, a 69 year old man from Palm Desert, California, began hiking Sunday morning on the trail located at the top of the Petersburgh Pass on State Route 2. The man contacted his girlfriend by cell phone late in the afternoon and told her he was lost. State Troopers along with DEC Forest Rangers and ENCON Officers responded to the area and began a search. A State Police helicopter also responded until heavy rain and low clouds moved into the area. State Police Communications personnel were able to obtain a location of the hiker through his cell phone. Forest Rangers on All Terrain Vehicles located the man just before dark over ten miles from the trailhead. He was found to be in good health. [/private]
