Wednesday, December 26, 1838: This morning I took the cutter and carried Charlotte to said Morey’s school. She has had two days vacation. [private]Today I handed Hannah Morey twenty nine dollars, which is in full for my two daughters board and tuition for eleven weeks and the time is expired but their last two weeks I handed the money to his sister as he directed me when I met him on the road. On the way home I called to Wm Rowley’s and he paid his school bill 32 cts.
Saturday: Today I took my cutter and carried my wife to brother Samuel Beers on a visit. On the way going I called to Caleb Jolls and left my tax money which was eight dol and twenty five cts.
Monday, December 31: I threshed wheat. Today Mr. Benj Goodrich called to know if I would sell my Rodgers Farm and on what conditions. I told him my price was two thousand dollars and wait four years with interest and security and he wanted a refusal a few weeks for consideration.
Tuesday, January 1, 1839: Today I repaired my barn where my horses had kicked off the door and boards, and my horses had wounded each other kicking, but not bad. Today my two daughters went sleigh riding. Mr. Rowley’s young people and others and returned to their school. They came home last evening and Freelove and Melinda Pierce with them and stayed.
Saturday: I took my two horse team and sleigh and rode to Lebanon to A. Morey’s and fetched my two daughters from school and their teacher Miss Mehitabel Chase home with us on a visit.
Sunday: on this evening Mr. A. Morey called to take Miss Chase and Mr. Hiscox called with him and Miss Freelove and Melinda Pierce and Miss Eldrige and Miss Faris called with them.
Wednesday: Today I took cutter and carried my wife to Squ Nathan Howard’s on a visit and then cousin Samuel Holcomb rode with me to Squ James Jones to see if he would assist me in getting a part of my rent taken off at Stephen Van Rensselaer but said Jones refused of assisting me on condition that he had been called on to assist others and he denies all. We took dinner with said Jones and then we returned to said Howard’s.[/private]
