A Letter From The Patroon

September 15, 2016 By eastwickpress

Friday, February 8, 1839: This forenoon I went to Elijah Goodrich saw mill twice and carried three saw logs ash timber. Today at or about eleven o’clock Mr. Jared Harrison died at his son Randolph’s at the house called Alonzo Chapman house.[private] He died with the lung complaint of a week sickness. I called at the house in a short time after he died and assisted some in laying him out.

Saturday: This afternoon I fetched my two daughters from the Navarino School and fetched Celestia Eldrige with us home. Sunday I took my sleigh and carried my wife and two oldest daughters and son John and Miss Celestia Eldrige to the funeral of Jared Harrison at the Seventh Day meeting house, elder Jones preached.

Tuesday: This forenoon I chopped up the load of wood to the school house and this afternoon I shod my pung.

Wednesday: I shod my sled and I went to Elijah Goodrich sawmill twice with two soft maple logs and I drew home a load of wood.

Thursday: I chopped and drew a load of wood from my swamp and this afternoon I took my two horse team and wagon and carried my wife to Sylvenas Carpenter’s on a visit and we stayed this evening to singing school.

Saturday, February 16: This afternoon I took the two horse team and fetched my two daughters from the Navarino School. I called to Nathaniel Nichols Store and paid 12 cts for two kinds of puke and I came home and we gave our son Geo P a puke for he had a lung complaint and had been unwell nearly two weeks.

Monday: On this evening I walked over to Claudius Moffitt’s store and I paid twelve cts for half a quire of writing paper, and talked with him about rents to the Patroons.

Wednesday: Towards night I rode up to Squ Sylvester Howard’s and other places to inquire concerning rents to the Patroons for yesterday I had a letter to pay my rent.

Thursday February 21, 1839: I took my wife in to my two horse pleasure wagon and carried her to Samuel Holcomb’s and we took dinner.[/private]
