A Small Subdivision And News Of A Property Auction Highlight The Berlin Planning Board Session

Robert and June Hoffman presented the Board with a proposal to subdivide their property at 135 Watson Road for the express purpose of creating a right of way for the owners of the neighboring property, Bill and Nancy Costa. [private]The Board voted to accept the .94 acre proposal as well as the short form environmental quality review act, and scheduled a public hearing on the matter for September 22 at 7 pm. The hearing will be held at the Town Hall.

Large Property Auction in Berlin September 17 Planning Board Chairwoman Pam Gerstel informed the Board members that a Houston, TX based company called The Real plans to auction off 12 area properties which include the old bank building on Route 22, the onetime Colonial Hotel at Main and Elm Streets, several other nearby buildings and some in neighboring towns.

According to Berlin Supervisor Rob Jaeger, the town is considering placing the old highway garage on Route 22, on the auction block as well. According to Gerstel, Stewart’s Ice Cream Company, which operates a shop in Berlin, is looking at the former bank as a possible location for a new expanded store. The auction is scheduled to start at 11 am on Saturday September 17, at the site of the former Colonial Hotel.[/private]
