There will be some new colors on opponents jerseys this season as the Wasaren League welcomes two new members for the 2016 season.[private]Saratoga Catholic left the Western Athletic Conference and Waterford-Halfmoon is moving from the Central Hudson Valley League to join the always competitive Wasaren.
Granville left the Wasaren to the become part of the Adirondack League.
The Wasaren League now consists of nine teams. Football is unaffected by the changes as football is scheduled by class, not league affiliation.
For the 2016 season, HFCS is listed as having 288 students, making it a Class B team for most team sports. The criteria established by the NYS Public High School Athletic Association for Class B is 280 – 479 students, with classification variations. Variations for HFCS include: Field hockey Class C is 449 or fewer students; girls lacrosse Class D is 474 or fewer students; boys lacrosse Class C is 589 or fewer students. For football, Class C is a student enrollment between 240 – 364.
Class C is 279 – 170 students, Class D is 169 or below. The new Wasaren League is made up of Cambridge (218 students-Class C), Greenwich (242-C), Hoosic Valley (261-C), Hoosick Falls, Mechanicville (279-C), Stillwater (268-C), Saratoga Catholic Central (107-*), Tamarac (302-B), Waterford-Halfmoon (203-C). *Non-public schools are subject to the Sections’ Classification of Non-Public Schools Committee for each sport the school competes in.
