Farm To Canvas Art  Lottery And Sternberg 5K Race Both September 10

Submitted by Jayne Stokes

CiviCure’s events on Saturday, September 10, step off at 9 am with the Fourth Annual Rolf Max Sternberg Memorial 5K Road Race/Walk for Community through Creativity and come to an exciting conclusion with the second annual Farm to Canvas Art Lottery at 6 pm.[private] Farm to Canvas presents artwork by dozens of the region’s finest artists in a drawing where every ticket holder wins an original work of art! The riverside location and handsomely renovated historic mill of Brown’s Brewing Company’s Walloomsac Taproom at 50 Factory Hill Road in Hoosick Falls provide the perfect venue for this art-full evening.

To accompany Farm to Canvas, Brown’s Brewing will create a delicious farm to table menu available at a separate price from lottery event tickets.

Individual Farm to Canvas attendees may purchase one ticket ($75) for the art lottery on that evening only, beginning at 6 pm. Each ticket allows the purchaser to choose a work when their number is drawn at random beginning at 7 pm. The number of participating artists will determine the number of art lottery tickets sold. Farm to Canvas artworks may be previewed in Brown’s Walloomsac Taproom beginning on September 7.

The fourth annual Sternberg 5k run/walk honors the life and legacy of Rolf Max Sternberg (1945-2012), who was a founder of CiviCure (Civic and Cultural Restoration), which organizes the race. Sternberg was an ardent champion of his home town of Hoosick Falls and rarely started his day without a 2½ mile run. CiviCure is a cultural non-profit organization with the mission of supporting the revitalization of the Hoosick economy through active stewardship of the community’s rich heritage and rural environs and the art inspired by them.

Register for the race at www.civicure.org (click on “Events”) using PayPal, or download the form and mail it to CiviCure, P.O. Box 68, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Early registration is strongly recommended as a way to save time on race day. The first 75 entries will receive a commemorative tee shirt. Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female overall finishers. In addition, the top male and female runners in each of the following categories will receive an award: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-69 and 70 and above.

Registration and number bib pick-up will take place on September 10 from 7:30 to 8:45 am at the Wood Memorial Park bandstand on Main Street. The race starts at 9 am on Munsell Street. Participants should allow time to get to the starting line which is about ¼ mile from Wood Park. A map can be downloaded from civicure.org/events.

Whether you will be running, walking or cheering on those who do, CiviCure invites you to join the family and friends of Rolf Sternberg on September 10 and enjoy the community he loved.

If you can’t make the events but want to support the organization, we welcome your contribution through our website or at the address above.
