Dr. Peter A. Martin

September 1, 2016 By eastwickpress

Hoosick Falls – Boom! On August 23, 2016 Peter A. Martin, with his wife Denise and granddaughter Alexandria (Allie) at his side, was called to leave this world for a much better one. He was at home.[private] Most would know Peter as Dr. Martin, the optometrist from Nu-Vue Vision Center in Hoosick Falls. However, his family would tell you that he was so much more… father, grandfather, great-grandfather, fisherman, hunter, historian, scientist, artist, jokester and tinkerer. Peter was one of those unique minds that was one of a kind and never to be repeated again in history. Ob-Martinweb When God made Peter he took the intelligence of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, the quirkiness of Kramer from Seinfeld and the love of Tim Allen from Home Improvement to make the perfect husband/father.

Although his body “kicked the bucket,” his legacy is forever through his children, Peter Martin III (Heather), John Paul Martin (Lisa), Monique Bloxsom (Jay), grandchildren, USMC Sgt. Connor Martin (Sgt. Glory), Allie Martin, Isabelle and Abigail Bloxsom, great-grandchildren Viviana and Jaylen Rodrigues and Adrianna and Avianna Martin. He is also survived by his brother John Henry Martin (Anna) and three nephews Christopher, Matthew and Nicholas Martin and sisters-in-law Lise Mareno (Michael), Jacqueline Chabot (Yvon), Ginette DeBlois (Jacque), Eileen McNeal, Susan Belak (Keith), Joanne Rivenburgh (Ron), brother-in-law Marcel Viger (Lorraine) and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by sister-in-law Nicole Lacasse (Gaetan).

Denise and Peter were married on August 5, 1972. According to his children, Peter was blessed with one amazing wife who put up with all of his idiosyncrasies for those 44 years.

Born on August 17, 1949, he was the son of the late Peter A. Martin, Jr. and Antoinette Gorka. He was a graduate of SUNY Albany and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He was a past president of the Hoosick Falls Kiwanis, a member of the New York State Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Peter’s body was donated to the Albany Medical College for Anatomical Study.

A celebration of his life will take place privately upon the return of his ashes. If by chance you wish to remember him, do it with a kind word or deed to someone who needs you.

If desired, contributions may be made in Peter’s name to the Karen and Molly McGovern Fund, Box 132, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090 or The Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer, NY 12144.[/private]
