George Philpott

Hoosick – George E. Philpott, 82, passed away on Wednesday September 7, 2016 at his residence on Breese Hollow Road. [private]He was the husband of the late Patricia A. Philpott who passed on May 29, 2007. George was born at the family farm on Breese Hollow Road on July 23, 1934, son of the late Guy and Jennie (Haas) Philpott. He was educated at the one room school house on Breese Hollow Road. George worked at the family farm in his earlier years then at several area factories retiring from NSK in Bennington, VT. He enjoyed gardening and traveling to Maine and Lake Champlain. George was an animal lover raising chickens, watching birds and his companion “Hara” his dog. Survivors include his daughters Kathleen Cutler of Woodford, VT, Deborah Surdam (Leo III) of Hoosick, NY, Colleen Wilwol (Donald) of Southwest Hoosick, NY, Carrie Garippa (Vince) of Eagle Bridge, NY and Mary Somes (Lance) of Lee, MA, a sister Florence Perry of Greenwich, NY, brother Ralph Philpott of Hoosick Falls, NY. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildrenand several nieces and nephews. George is predeceased by a son Matthew Philpott. Funeral services were held on Saturday September 10, at 11 am from the First Baptist Church on South Street in Hoosick, NY. Burial followed the service at Hoosick Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends called at the church on Saturday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Second Chance Animal Shelter, Karen & Molly McGovern Memorial Fund or the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Disease foundation, through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090.[/private]
