Nine players in grades 8 to10, from New York City based Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership, brought a lacrosse clinic to Hoosac School last Thursday and Friday.[private] Coaches Spencer Riehl, Owen Van Arsdale and Joel Censor ran the players through drills for the two very warm days. Several Hoosac School players also attended.

The Harlem Boot Camp gives players a chance to attend private high schools outside of the city by way of their athletic ability. The players realize what a great opportunity it is for them and are very serious about the opportunity the program presents. The program is part of New York City’s Student Success Network, which empowers low income high school students with the social and emotional ability to succeed in college and careers.
Bernard Baafour was one of the players. Originally from Accra, Ghana, he has been living in NYC for four years and is now enrolled at Hoosac School as a sophomore. Bernard has worked to learn English and is pursuing his goal of obtaining a pilots license. His dream is to attend college and be an Air Force pilot. [/private]
