by Steve Bradley The high-scoring Lake George / Hadley Luzerne War Eagles (3-1) took the opening kick-off and headed down the field and didn’t stop until they were in the end zone. [private]Then they kicked the ball off to the Panthers. The Panthers counterpunch was to drive 65 yards in 10 rushing plays for their own score. The Panthers made their PAT kick and that gave them a one point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The teams each scored in the second quarter. The Panthers struck first on a 17 yard strike from quarterback Aaron Tomczak to a wide open David Everard. The two point PAT attempt was no good. LG/HL countered with their own scoring drive on their next possession, concluding with a 25 yard strike. The PAT two point rush attempt was good and the WarEagles held a one point 14 – 13 lead.
The third and early fourth quarter was a scoreless draw. Passes were difficult to complete for both teams, with many slipping through receivers hands. Much of the play was in Panther territory with LF / HL in scoring position but unable to move those last 25 yards to score.
In the fourth, in what was now a trend, one team scored and the other scored on the next possession. With less than four minutes left, Hoosick Falls scored on a nice 25 yard run by Tristan Hunt, who reversed field when the original direction of the play was blocked. The PAT attempt was no good, giving the Panthers a 19-14 lead. LG / HL came right back with a 60 yard, ten play drive, all rushing plays, to score on a three yard dive. Needing two points with the PAT to avoid being beaten by a field goal, the WarEagles were successful on their two point attempt.
The Panthers had one more chance to take the lead but were intercepted and the WarEagles took a knee to run out the clock.
Tomzcak had a run of 100 plus passing yard games come to an end, throwing for 67 yards and rushing for 55. Tristan Hunt gained 99 yards rushing. The Panthers were outgained 345 to 183.
Coming up this week, Hoosick Falls travels to Brunswick to play Tamarac (2-2). The game is sceduled for Friday, September 30 at 7 pm.
